Odair José caused a stir when he released the album "The Son of José and Maria" in 1977. Innovative and bold, the album also gained recognition for its talented group of participating musicians. Now, the work returns to stores in a new 180-gram vinyl record as part of the "Classics on Vinyl" collection—a collaboration between Polysom and Sony Music.

Throughout its ten tracks, the conceptual album narrates the story of a man who discovers his true passions and abilities in life at the age of 33. In addition to references to the life of Christ, the lyrics also bring critiques of homophobia and the hypocrisy of moralism.

The rock opera's instrumentation features musicians such as Hyldon (guitar), Robson Jorge (Piano and Fender Rhodes), and the renowned trio Azymuth—Ivan Conti "Mamão" (drums), Alexandre Malheiros (bass), and José Roberto Bertrami (organ, clarinet, and ARP String Ensemble synthesizer). Jaime Alem, who would later become the musical director for Maria Bethânia, also contributes to the guitar lineup. The artistic direction was handled by Durval Ferreira, and the studio direction was the responsibility of Guilherme Araújo.
