With arrangements by Gilberto Gil, Rogério Duprat, and Lanny Gordin, the album retains a style still linked to bossa nova while already demonstrating an evolution toward the tropicalist movement. “Gal Costa” consists of 12 tracks, including hits that marked the singer's career and became nationally known through her interpretations, such as “Baby” (Caetano Veloso), “Divino Maravilhoso” (Gilberto Gil, Caetano Veloso), and “Não Identificado” (Caetano Veloso). The album also features her versions of “Que Pena (Ela Já Não Gosta Mais de Mim)” by Jorge Ben Jor, “Namorinho de Portão” by Tom Zé, “Se Você Pensa,” and “Vou Recomeçar” by Roberto and Erasmo Carlos, among others.
