It is impossible to talk about soul music in Brazil without mentioning the singer, songwriter, and guitarist Cassiano. His first album, released in 1971, already featured influences from Stevie Wonder and Otis Redding. Celebrating its 40th anniversary in 2016, his album “Cuban Soul: 18 Kilates,” considered the most important of his career, returns to shelves on 180-gram vinyl as part of the “Classics on Vinyl” collection from Polysom.

Celebrating its 40th anniversary in 2016, his album “Cuban Soul: 18 Kilates,” considered the most important of his career, returns to shelves on 180-gram vinyl as part of the “Classics on Vinyl” collection from Polysom.
Originally released by Polydor, the album was produced by Gastão Lamounier and songwriter Paulo Zdanowski, who co-wrote the nine songs with Cassiano. Among the hits from the album are “Coleção,” “A Lua e Eu,” and “Onda.” Blending R&B and soul music with a Brazilian flair, featuring rich harmonies and his unmistakable vocal tone, he delivered what is one of the most significant albums in national music.
