Electro-pop mish mash, menagerie of French horn and ante-Raphaelish harps, counter-tenor male trio and female voices escaping from the room over there, at the end of the hallway. It™s the carnival of the phantoms, a Day of the Dead in Mexico, with the Consul as an ill guide. At the helm, the Hypnolove trio, based in the south of France but with spread origins : French, Portuguese, German. Their first album Eurolove and the hit šMademoiselle› was released„ Already„ Seven years ago. From that time ? Music remains a passion. Buddies getting together again. A group of true musicians, who perform for pleasure before everything. Like when they were teenagers, injected with electro-pop, New Order or Pet Shop Boys, or, years later, sharing obscure bands, strange and stranger cryptic producers, uncertain records„ Seven years of reflexion„ Sure-handed, the producer Mickey Moonlight, the English ambassador to Ed Banger records, conduces. It had to take a scatterbrain like him to set in order and channel the trio. A French horn opens the first title, like a hazy voice lost on an Arthur Russell tape. A phat rythm arrives, heavy, perched on an ESG under the Martin Hannett influence sphere. Second track, the brilliant šHoliday Reverie› expands horizons, a zouk gleam for the gyals. The third one šMidnight Cruising› gets back to the teen electro-pop loves, with a little savor of Valérie Doré™s šNight›. Fourth track, šWinter In The Sun›, always playing with opposites, a matchmaker smoothly interpreted by Findlay Brown. šCome To My Empire› in fifth position, the Hypnolove get kinky, the tension is mounting, electro-pop is wearing black. Feminine voices on šBeyond Paradise›, the ones of the Puro Instinct sisters, label companions, and rising arpeggios, pop always more pop. The seventh is the eponymous track of the album : šGhost Carnival› and the voice of Freya Perry, 9, footloose and fancy free. Italo synths are more pronounced on the 8th track, šSleepwalker›, on the wire, please don™t wake up the tightrope walker. šGoodnight Kiss›, sweet explicit, goodnight friends. Nine titles in all and ninety-nine emotions on the clock. The magic happens, the dance of contradictions, a winter in the Sun. A pop odyssey, pop above all, melancholic and grinning. The cover features an artwork by Yazbukey who created and wore a full size jewel for the occasion. Ready for the parade!
