INFO
Nearly three years after DJ Hell's accompl ished double-album Teufelswerk – The Guardian called it "one of the most a mbitious and compelling dance albums of all time" and Resident Advisor a "toweri ng, once-in-a-career work" – he returns with House Remixes Part 2.
< br> As Hell's original Teufelswerk was already a collaborative affair, inviting the likes of Bryan Ferry, Peter Kruder, Christian Prommer and &ME into the studi o, it's only natural that he would extend the invitation to some of his other fa vorite producers to rework these contemporary classics. Now, following the first part of House Remixes released late last year, the fire continues spreading, be yond the ninth circle...
Kicking things off is French trio dOP (Circu s Company) who extend "Carte Blanche" (originally a one-minute interlude) into a sexy stomper with heavy rhythms that contrast with smooth spoken word, followed by Thomas Schumacher (Get Physical) with his synthetic take on "The Disaster". Then Hungary's Pernau with his sinister version of "Friday, Saturday, Sunday", a true weekend anthem as the title implies, and then comes Gigolo duo Lenoir & Me riton, who lift the popcorn arpeggiation of "Wonderland" and add their own Swiss spin to create an electro-house workout.
The original Teufelwerk's " U Can Dance" was one of the album's highlights, featuring legendary Roxy Music s inger Bryan Ferry on vocals, and Carl Craig's two remixes from the 12" single go t massive play from DJs around the world. Now the Detroit mastermind offers an u nreleased third version with a notably different structure, starting out a cappe lla before crystalizing into an instrumental gem. Then we are treated by The Mod el from Romania with his relentlessly abrasive remix of "Hellracer" – easi ly this collection's raviest track.
Radio Slave turned heads back in 2010 with his 28-minute remix of single "The DJ", featuring Bad Boy P. Diddy, an d here his REKIDS labelmate Spencer Parker trims it down to a more concise 9-min ute edit for a fresh listening experience. Abe Duque and his own take on "Wonder land", which makes for an experience both captivating disorienting, much like Al ice's storybook adventures.
Finally Hannah Holland of London's Batty Bass c ollective, brings the album to close twisting "I Prefer Women to Men Anyway" int o a Sapphic acid workout.
Now any DJs with idle hands know what to ad d to their collection!
