Thomas Dolby is one of most innovative musicians of the 1980s, who not only scored mainstream pop smashes with She Blinded Me With Science and Hyperactive! but also produced landmark albums by Prefab Sprout and Joni Mitchell, and created the software that enabled monophonic mobile phones to play music (remember the Nokia theme? Thomas created that). He performed a synth jam with Stevie Wonder and Herbie Hancock at the Grammys, was feted by Thriller-era Michael Jackson and was the musical director and keyboard player for David Bowie at Live Aid. The Sole Inhabitant is a live recording made when, after a decade in Silicon Valley, Thomas returned to performing music in the 2000s. With his customary creativity and attention to detail, he has applied the fruits of the latest technology to recreate his classic 80s hits and deep cuts. Side four is exclusive to vinyl and was recorded at SXSW in Austin. For fans of electronic music, pop, and English musical history, The Sole Inhabitant is an essential addition to their record collection.
