The label's latest release, the compilation "PERMANENT VACATION-SELECTED LABEL WORKS N.1" now once again comprises a selection of singles that have only been available on vinyl so far. Two packed CDs will feature Permanent Vacation's greatest hits, such as DOLLE JOLLE's BALEARIC INCARNATION remixed by TODD TERJE, or the SUPERPITCHER interpretation of LULLABIES IN THE DARK, as well as tracks that haven?t been released so far. Last but not least, the compilation will present the production debut of the label heads Bioly and Fröhlich, who have recorded the song "TIC TOC" under their project name Permanent Vacation. Thirty years later, its motor has gained new drive and the ball is spinning faster than ever. Partly responsible for this renaissance is the Munich label: PERMANENT VACATION. Founded by TOM BIOLY and BENJAMIN FRÖHLICH during Germany?s tropical summer of 2006, PERMANENT VACATION has not only survived in the obscure jungle of modern dance music, but has established itself as a flagship of the DISCO MOVEMENT and its variations such as BALEARIC, COSMIC, KRAUTROCK or PROTOHOUSE, all of which have become extremely popular on all continents. However, BIOLY and FRÖHLICH don?t consider Disco as mere retro phenomenon (even though there shouldn?t be a lack of authenticity), as they have their home and base in Munich?the city that, along with New York, shaped the early days of Disco. BIOLY and FRÖHLICH rather deem Disco a form of mentality dissolving from all too fixed and earnest paradigms of dance music and the undercooled sound aesthetics of the electronic scene, promising warmth, playfulness and fun again. What else should partying be about? Bioly, who had been working in the music business for several years bringing the necessary know-how for the foundation of the label, met Fröhlich, who had been busy DJing and organizing parties, in the record store play-records also run by Fröhlich. Tom Bioly was a regular at the record store. They got friends and found to have a similar taste of music. The label name PERMANENT VACATION is also reflected in the foundation process, whose concept was rather developed during games of ping pong than at an official conference table. Finally, the starting signal for the label marked the compilation of the same name??PERMANENT VACATION??, which was celebrated as ?razor-sharp, pulsating, pornographic, all fuses opening crazy pop? by Germany?s leading daily newspaper Süddeutsche Zeitung. Many tracks featured on the compilation in the mean time have become classics of the genre. Following the compilation, permanent vacation re-released the ANTENA album CAMINO DEL SOL, which had long been deemed missing. "Camino Del Sol" has gained cult status among Cosmic and Ibiza followers, has been mentioned by stars like the Pet Shop Boys as a source of inspiration and cosmic veterans like DANIELLE BALDELLI and BEPPE LODA always include Antena?s songs in each of their DJ sets. In addition, an album of remixes called "Versiones Spéciales" joined an illustrious flock of musicians, all of whom are passionate fans of Antena. Along with remixes by NOUVELLE VAGUE, TODD TERJE, THE CHROMATICS (ITALIANS DO IT BETTER), the album includes a revised edition of Camino Del Sol by JOAKIM, who concocted out of the material one of the greatest 2006 dancefloor Hymns, thus irrevocably establishing Permanent Vacation. A larger audience became aware of Permanent Vacation through the release of the album "MISS DIAMOND TO YOU" by singer KATHY DIAMOND. The album was produced by the wild boogie Professor and music wizard MAURICE FULTON, who created a modern day disco classic. The collection of songs on this album most definitely belong to the decisive records defining the new disco era and was described as a ?pop masterpiece? by Rolling Stone magazine. Permanent Vacation further cemented its reputation with the release of the compilation "SPACE ODDITIES," which gathered library music (music for radio and TV produced by acclaimed musicians under pseudonym) from the disco- and cosmic scope for the first time on one album. Also, the concept album by WOOLFY VS.PROJECTIONS titled "THE ASTRAL PROJECTIONS OF STARLIGHT" managed to filter the essence of the slightly squishy BALEARIC genre. WOOLFY VS. PROJECTIONS belong to a loosely associated group of musicians, who moved from Great Britain to California trooping up with the legendary and myth-enshrouded disco guru DJ HARVEY. All together they have made their dream of endless summers come true, which is also mirrored in their music. In between Permanent Vacation?s various album releases, the label continuously set priorities and trends with numerous vinyl 12"-releases that are testament to Bioly?s and Fröhlich?s excellent A&R work and their unique sense to scout new musical talents. As the first label ever, they requested a Remix from New York artists HOLY GHOST! to merge the two capitals of disco in one production. Shortly after this remix, HOLY GHOST! released their debut single on DFA RECORDS and created remixes for artists such as MGMT and CUT COPY. PERMANENT VACATION in general feels a certain relatedness to New York City and DFA RECORDS (who post declarations of their sympathy for Permanent Vacation on their Myspace site once in a while) and could win one of the most popular representatives of the disco revival HERCULES AND LOVE AFFAIR for a remix. Permanent Vacation also ordered a remix from Balearic-Superstars AEROPLANE, who will be big in 2009, at a very early stage of their career, before they did remixes for FRIENDLY FIRES and GRACE JONES. The Munich label heads in addition gave LULLABIES IN THE DARK,a side project of one of the AEROPLANE pilots, a forum. Dedicating themselves to the Italian flavors of disco Bioly and Fröhlich launched two 12"s by SALLY SHAPIRO, who succeeds to blend super-sweet 1980s ITALOPOP with the charm of early 1990s EURODANCE productions in extraordinarily new ways. Both singles "JACKIE JACKIE" and "HE KEEPS ME ALIVE" were extended by interpretations of the JUNIOR BOYS, the Norwegian Disco-Don LINDSTRÖM, THE JUAN MCLEAN, TENSNAKE and many more. By the way, in 2009 PERMANENT VACATION will proudly release a brand new album of SALLY SHAPIRO.
