The long-awaited return of a Kompakt pioneer is upon us: REINHARD VOIGT finally presents new solo material with RACHANEE - the first 12" release under his own name since ALL IN from 2007 (KOMPAKT 168). Two impressive techno cuts jostle for a pole position in the frequency range, succesfully updating the artist's tried and true techniques for a contemporary crowd on the verge of blast-off. As far as first impressions go, opener and title track RACHANEE already scores in the first few seconds, thanks to the inspired use of its hypnotic voice sample - a lesson in catchy minimalism, it's this undulating snippet that draws the listener in, followed by a stoic but surprisingly funky bassline whose sex appeal clearly lies in its simplicity. The cut's genetic make-up marks it as a kinsman to Voigt & Voigt's output - notably their versatile debut full-length Die Zauberhafte Welt der Anderen (KOMPAKT 274 CD 104) and its use of found footage and collage aesthetics mixed up with enticing rhythm patterns. Flipside banger TISCH FÜR ZWEI has a slightly different mindset, displaying a dizzying fondness for vintage synth grinding established by stone cold Reinhard Voigt classics such as "How We Rock" (KOMPAKT 72) or "Supertiel" (KOMPAKT EXTRA 2). A jacked-up reminiscence and masterful reappropriation of this traditional art of mind-bending, the swerving bleeps keep the beats guessing, thus ensuring the right amount of insanity in a track that exclusively follows its own rules.
