Flanders celebrated musicians Myrddin and Koen De Cauter unveil a modern exploration of Guido Gezelle's timeless poetry, marking the culmination of a three-decade journey. This project seamlessly combines auditory and visual elements, with Myrddin's distinctive drawings accompanying each song in a book paired with a double-CD.
Released under the title 'O Leeksken Licht,' this collaboration breathes new life into Gezelle's verses Koen De Cauter expresses: "These recordings allow the immense genius of Gezelle to be experienced in musical silence."
In October 2023, the project emerged, inviting audiences to rediscover the cultural richness often overlooked in the contemporary landscape. The book version features 18 songs, while the digital release offers a curated selection of eight.
With Koen De Cauter on vocals and the occasional soprano sax he is accompanied by Myrddin on guitar and clarinet, Stijn Kuppens on cello, Dajo De Cauter on double bass, Mikhail Bezverkhny on violin and Bart Indevuyst on horn.
Guido Gezelle’s profound body of work has, in recent times, regrettably faded from the limelight. The average Flemish individual, often distancing themselves from anything associated with traditional Catholic beliefs, has overlooked the beauty within Gezelle’s verses. Even innocent depictions of nature have been met with skepticism.
