Simian Mobile Disco is English electronic music production duo James Ford and James Anthony Shaw, who formed as a splinter group in 2005 after their band Simian (with Simon William Lord and Alex MacNaghten) disbanded. Simian released two albums, Chemistry Is What We Are (2001) and We Are Your Friends (2002), the latter being produced by Brian Eno, from which the single of the title track (a remix of their song "Never Be Alone"), was credited to "Justice vs. Simian" as it was in part written by French electro outfit Justice; and it famously won the award for best video at MTV Europe Video Awards 2006 where fellow nominee Kanye West appeared on stage mid-acceptance to complain about their victory. They have so far released three albums, ˜Attack Delay Sustain Release™ (2007, Wichita Recordings), ˜Simian Mobile Disco EP™ (2007, Interscope), ˜Clock EP™ (2008, Wichita Recordings), and also four mixed compilations, ˜Mobile Disco 2003™ (2003), ˜Bugged Out! Presents: Suck My Deck™ (2007), ˜Go Commando™ (2007) and ˜I'm A Cliche/The Tokyo Tapes™ (2008), as well as countless singles and remixes. SMD are much in-demand as remix producers, having remixed artists like Muse, The Klaxons, The Go! Team, Air, The Rapture, Björk, CSS, Ladytron, The Presets, Peaches and Tahiti 80. James Ford produced the second album by acclaimed British indie band Arctic Monkeys, ˜Favourite Worst Nightmare™ (2007) which was nominated for a Mercury Prize (2007) and won the Brit Award for Best British Album (2008).
