As an artist whose music has always defied classification, it comes as no surprise that Martyn™s fabric mix tiptoes, straddles and stomps over the notion of genre; fabric 50 is a thrilling, unpredictable portrait of today™s all-embracing and cross-pollinating music scenes. Powered only by the common link of bass culture, Martyn fuses the deep impact of 2562 and Kode 9, the funky step of Roska and Uncle Bakongo, wildly imaginative creations from Hudson Mohawke and Joy Orbison, and the cerebral trip of Werk Discs™ Actress. Also glittered with his own 3024 label creations, this is a definitive snapshot of any pulsating, incandescent dancefloor taken over by the Martyn sound.Born Martijn Deykers in Eindoven, Holland, Martyn™s first forays into the music world were in promotion. He started a drum & bass club night called Red Zone in Holland, which quickly rose to become a hugely successful cult-followed night, booking the biggest D&B DJs in the scene. With beginnings in drum & bass, Martyn™s first release was on a division of Marcus Intalex™s D&B imprint Soul:r - Revolve:r, his label for the more experimental side of things. From Martyn™s very beginnings, it was clear that he was different; bridging the gap between sounds and blurring the lines between genres. His productions have since landed on Aus Music, Apple Pips and Tectonic; and his remixes have appeared on a wide variety of the most enviable labels (proof of how expansive his sound can be): Hotflush Recordings, Hessle Audio, Tempa, Ostgun Ton and Warp Records. His own 3024 imprint is a forward-thinking platform for Martyn™s imaginative productions, and has also been home to an EP from the cult-worshipped dub/dubtechno artist 2562. Martyn™s debut album, ˜Great Lengths,™ was undoubtedly one of the most anticipated albums of 2008, and became a beautifully vibrant sensation with critics and fans alike. With percussive rhythms and deep, swallowing basslines, the singles ˜Vancouver,™ ˜These Words™ and ˜right?star!™ were permanent fixtures in DJs™ boxes across the board, as well as radio airwaves. Martyn™s sound is best left in his own words (as told to the website RCRDLBL): šAlthough it might sound a tad arrogant, I'd like to think of my music as ˜Martyn music. I try not to think of it as dubstep or techno, or house or drum & bass, it's not about genres, it's about music.› As a DJ, Martyn is spread throughout the club circuit, with a globe-spanning tour schedule that varies from the biggest festivals in the world (his set at Barcelona™s Sonar festival this past June still being one of the most talked-about this year) to the most underground events. 01 Hudson Mohawke Joy Fantastic Feat.
