The Manmade Mastering founder, veteran producer and label owner debuts with his first solo effort on Ellen Allien™s BPitch Berlin. The five tracks showcase the Berlin-based US American producer™s knack for a timeless techno sound that harkens back to the heyday of minimal techno while relentlessly rushing towards a yet unknown future. If it™s true that American lives have no second acts, Xavier has come to prove that he is the exception to the rule and ready to take things even further. »Act III« is a marriage of groovy minimalism and the thumping sound aesthetic of the city where has been living for more than a decade while playing an integral part in pushing the envelope in Berlin™s local scene. After the whirling sequences that make»Act III« a quasi-acid anthem, the intricate rhythms of »Post EMT« seem almost restrained. However the circular patterns quickly develop a life of their own, calling to mind the core elements of techno and house at the same time - irresistible grooves and pulsating bass frequencies. Drum programming barely ever gets more vivid than here. This is the kind of music that sucks you in slowly and does not let you go so easily. »UFO Kommt« then is not only by title a riff on the cosmic space techno that BPitch founder Ellen Allien is known for. With it™s straightforward kick, lysergic acid lines and spheric chords, it provides the perfect soundtrack for the point at any party when the sun has come out but everyone is still far from ready to go home yet. With its spectacular break especially, »UFO Kommt« delivers on the promise provided by the title with an otherworldly atmosphere. The title track »Dust to Dust« on the other hand is a hyper-focused lesson about how less is more. While it at first glance serves as an update of the minimal heyday, the heavy dub influences turn this standout track into a life-affirming, singular mind trip - seven minutes of uninterrupted bliss and ecstasy. With »Keep Your Head«, Xavier closes his »Dust to Dust« EP with a curious slice of beat science which highlights the experienced mastering engineer™s sound design skills even further. Xavier draws on bass-heavy electro and IDM aesthetics for a piece of music that sounds as if someone would have set their drum machine to hard bop. »Keep Your Head« is a genre-defying track that serves as a counterpoint to the dancefloor-focused BPitch debut by one of techno™s most reliable producers.
