INFO

Lucky Thirteen! DJ Hell presents the thirteenth edition in the long-running comp ilation series of International Deejay Gigolo Recordings. As two years have pass ed since the last edition, this overview is the perfect way to catch up with the latest activity from the Gigolo extended family – including Snuff Crew, C hristian Prommer, Douglas Greed and Skwerl – as well as a glimpse ahead, p acked with plenty of brand new and unreleased material. And as usual, Hell has p lucked a few golden oldies from his massive record library that predate the labe l's existence but show its knowledge of (and connection to) dance music history. Spread across two discs, plus a few digital-only bonus tracks, CD Thirteen show cases the unrelenting stylistic adventurousness – from rough electro to po lished tech-house to syncopated Latin rhythms and even disco Schlager – th at Gigolo stands for.

Aside from his curatorial skills, G igolo mastermind DJ Hell makes four appearances on the compilation, including a fresh "New Jack Swing Club Mix" of his 1995 Disko B hit "Eat More House", as wel l as his remixes for Prommer & Barck, Gilla and Tim Deluxe, whose "Transformatio n" kicks off Disc 1. The original version was released late last year on Exile's own Get Human imprint, and after receiving a promotional copy Hell exclaimed, " I think it's a masterpiece. It's one of those tunes that happens maybe once a ye ar. Absolute timeless music!" So of course Hell had to put his own stamp on the piano-led Steve Reich-inspired anthem, setting the tone for our Gigolo journey.

Elsewhere, Douglas Greed pokes fun at those who can't sta nd to hear "When a Man Sings on a Track" over his electro swagger, while B.D.I.' s "A Riot of Chrome" has the kind of hypnotic bounce that could make Ron Hardy j ack in the grave. Aside from these and other exclusive cuts, Disc 1 also include s tracks selected from the latest Gigolo 12" EPs from Hrdvsion, Skwerl and Gin S ling, never before released on CD, plus Miami's Danny Daze offering a slice of b ooty with "Ghetto Fab" – a tune for those of you "wearin' more than one ha irstyle at a time" – as well as a welcome revisit of the 1990 classic "Hel l or Heaven" by L.U.D.O.

Disc 2 takes even more twists an d turns, including Lenoir & Meriton's interstellar Italo expedition "Nuclear Bod y" as well as Christian Prommer's cover of Cesar Maravillas' "Chocopop Jazz". Ba lanced with these fresh exclusives are recent hits from Rampa & Re.You, Oliver T on and DJ Koze (in the form of his remix for Makossa & Megablast), plus the brea kthrough single from Swedish dance production duo SoundFactory, the Inner City-i nspired pop gem "Understand this Groove", sounding as fresh now as it did back i n 1992.

As these two discs are jammed to capacity with po tent dancefloor grooves, Hell lets things overflow into the digital realm with d ownload-only tracks from Ireland's Phil Kieran, Bueno Aires' Romina Cohn, Munich 's Eduardo D'Alirio and Italy's disco queen heavyweight Hard Ton. Connecting the past, present and future of DJ culture, CD Thirteen marks the latest chapter in the ongoing Gigolo story...
