The story of Starship begins with Jefferson Airplane, the pioneering psychedelic rock band from San Francisco, which was founded in 1965. With hits such as “Somebody to Love” and “White Rabbit”, they became icons of the 1960s and performed at the Woodstock Festival in 1969.

In the 1970s, the line-up changed and Paul Kantner founded Jefferson Starship in 1974, which combined rock with mainstream elements and produced hits such as “Miracles”. In 1984, Kantner left the band and the remaining members formed Starship. Under Grace Slick and Mickey Thomas, the band developed a pop-rock sound that moved away from its psychedelic roots. Their album “Knee Deep in the Hoopla” (1985) produced the hit “We Built This City”, which became an anthem of the 1980s. Further successes such as “Sara” and “Nothing's Gonna Stop Us Now” followed, the latter of which received an Oscar nomination. Despite line-up changes, Starship's 1980s hits remain significant and continue to shape pop culture to this day. The band has been able to reinvent itself time and again - from Jefferson Airplane's psychedelic rock to Starship's pop rock. Today, Starship continues to perform their classics with fresh energy on stage. This album contains their mega-hits in new versions and celebrates their lasting impact.
