When I write, I always do it with a strong sense of nostalgia in mind. It's like missing memories that weren't really mine. My grandparents moved from southern Italy to Belgium in the 1950s to work in coal mines. I grew up in a small Italian community in Belgium and always felt caught between the two cultures that shaped me.
With ANEMOIA, I'm trying to balance these two parts of my identity. I use traditional Italian drums and add rhythms that my ancestors from the southern regions danced to for many years. At the same time, my songs are influenced by the music I heard while growing up in this post-industrial coal mine region. This ranges from House and Techno from the nightlife scene to Turkish, Greek, or Moroccan music from fellow immigrant descendants.
